HOW I MAKE MY VANILLA SOCKS:
Cuff Down:
(For me; women's US shoe size 10): I use a 2mm needle and cast on 64 stitches. For cuff-down, I do 28 rows of 2x2 rib followed by an 82 row leg. I then do a traditional heel flap and gusset, followed by 70-75 rows on the foot, and a standard toe with Kitchener.
(For my husband men's US shoe size 12): I use a 2.5mm needle and cast on 72 stitches. I knit 28 rows of 2x2 ribbing for the cuff, followed by a 60 row leg. I then do a traditional heel flap and gusset, followed by approximately 87 rows on the foot, then a standard toe with Kitchener.
Toe Up:
For toe-up, I start with Judy's magic cast-on. Then I knit the toe to 64 stitches for me (72 for hubby), then do roughly 70-75 rows on the foot for me (87ish rows for my husband; depending on yarn/ gauge; I try them on as I go); Fish Lips Kiss heel; then 82 rows on the leg for me (60 rows for hubby); followed by 28 rows of a 2x2 rib cuff and Jeny's Super Stretchy Bind-Off.
